Electrical Engineer – Planning Studies

Madison, WI

Responsibilities include performing a variety of electrical studies including steady state and dynamic system response studies using tools such as PSS/e, PSLF, and PowerWorld and transient analysis of systems and equipment using tools such as PSCAD, ATP-DRAW, EMTP-RV and ASPEN One-Liner. Many but not all the studies will be related to large scale renewable projects (wind, solar, energy storage) with other studies serving our large and small utility and industrial clients.  The successful candidate will be responsible for performing short circuit analysis of large utility scale renewable power systems (not dynamic stability studies but equipment withstand analysis) and must understand and be able to assess all equipment duty versus capability. Apparatus to be assessed includes EHV/HV/MV/LV circuit breakers, switches, cables, aux transformers, switchgear, inverters, wind turbines, aux power systems, etc.  Additional responsibilities include

Minimum Requirements:  BSEE required, MSEE preferred, power systems emphasis preferred; entry level will be considered. Must be capable of preparing high quality written engineering reports and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge on FERC-827 requirements and IEEE Standards required.  Must be able to develop PSCAD models including all apparatus using equipment datasheets and specifications.  Experience in the following software packages a plus: PSS/e Dynamics, PSLF Dynamics, Powerworld, PSCADTM , EMTP-RV, ATP, Matlab, MathCad, Aspen, CAPE and other specialized software.  Successful applicant must meet ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements.
