The Babcock Battery Energy Storage Facility, located in western Florida, consists of a 10 MW/40 MWHr solar battery energy storage system. The BESS itself is comprised of five (5) 2.0 MW blocks of Samsung batteries and inverters housed in Sabre containers, which contain the required AC and DC switchgear and distribution. ECI’s scope of work in this project included a complete engineering and design of the battery, including arrangement, site, and civil design, foundations, unit padmount transformers, 34.5kV and 480V cable systems and protection and control design, communications, and metering. Additionally, ECI designed the 34.5 kV bay addition at the Solar Substation to interconnect the BESS.
