ECI/EPCS provided complete turnkey design and build for Grasshopper Solar’s 115/34.5 kV substation, including one (1) 115 kV PCB (40 kA), three (3) 115 kV CVTs and one (1) 138 kV air disconnect switch. Grasshopper Solar is an 80 MW solar farm located in southern Virginia. ECI/EPCS also designed secondary equipment, including one (1) 34.5 kV disconnect switch and two (2) feeder breakers, each of which was equipped with a 34.5 kV breaker (25 kA) and hook operated disconnect switches to support the solar farm. Each bay served two incoming underground collection feeders, and hook operated switches were provided to independently sectionalize each feeder. The control building was designed in compliance with Dominion standards. Grasshopper Solar is part of an ongoing substation program between Dominion and EPCS and is ECI/EPCS’ 4th project to be constructed for Dominion.
