The history of ECI, Inc.
From our humble beginnings in Montana, discover how ECI has grown exponentially and contributed to some of the most critical power delivery projects throughout the United States and abroad.
- 1985 – Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) was incorporated in 1985 as a Montana Corporation
- 1990 – R.L. (Dick) McComish, P.E. Joins ECI as Engineering Manager
- 1990 – ECI welcomes our first new clients – Grand Electric Cooperative & Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative
- 1993 – ECI opens a new office in Salt Lake City, Utah
- 1996 – ECI opens a southwest office in Tucson, Arizona
- 1998 – ECI expands again to open the Madison, Wisconsin office in service to a new client partner, American Transmission Company
- 1999 – ECI reaches 100 employees
- 1999 – ECI establishes a client partnership with Arizona Public Service
- 2000 – ECI’s wholly owned subsidiary, EPC Services Company (EPCS), is formed providing Engineer-Procure-Construct delivery solutions
- 2004 – ECI establishes a client partner relationship with Invenergy, providing high voltage engineering for renewable energy facilities
- 2006 – ECI expands to the east, opening a new office in Tulsa, Oklahoma
- 2007 – ECI reaches 200 employees together with EPC Services Company
- 2013 – ECI expands to open a new office in Orlando, Florida in service to another client partner, Florida Power & Light
- 2014 – ECI reaches 400 employees together with EPC Services Company
- 2015 – ECI expands into the Pacific Northwest in Portland to continue services to long-standing Public Utility Districts in the area
- 2019 – ECI acquired Industrial Automation Consulting (IAC) expanding the industrial support services team and Relay Application Innovation (RAI) expanding the Protection & Control services team
- 2020 – ECI acquired Casco Systems expanding core service offering to include IEC-61850 design capabilities
- 2022 – ECI reaches 800 employees together with EPC Services Company
- 2023 – Today, ECI has grown significantly to a full staff of over 900 employees operating from more than 30 regional offices nationwide
- 2024 – ECI acquires PS Technologies Inc. of Alberta, Canada, becoming the company’s first international subsidiary
- 2024 – EPC Services Company, an ECI subsidiary, acquires Electro-Test & Maintenance, Inc. of Rapid City, South Dakota, expanding ECI’s electrical testing and heavy equipment maintenance services
