Rambler Solar Substation

Tom Green County, TX, USA

Power System Protection Engineering, Substation Engineering

ECI/EPCS provided complete engineering design, procurement, construction and testing services for a greenfield 34.5/345 kV substation solution for the Rambler Solar development located in central Texas. Rambler Solar produces 200 megawatts of renewable solar energy annually. ECI’s scope of work for the project included a single span three-phase overhead 345 kV transmission line, a deadend pole and OPGW. The project includes complete Substation Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the substation as necessary to fully interconnect the project with Lower Colorado River Authority, the Interconnection utility.

The substation design includes one (1) 345/34.5kV transformer, one (1) 345 kV PCB, one (1) 345 kV Disconnect switch with motor operator, two (2) 34.5 kV cap banks, five (5) 34.5 kV PCBs, three (3)345kV CVTs, and three (3) 34.5 VTs.  The project was tested and commissioned by EPCS staff and energized at the close of 2019.
