AEP developed a Station-in-a-Box program to design and construct various Stations based upon pre-determined configurations throughout their service system. As a part of this program, ECI was selected as Primary Contractor to provide a lump sum cost to engineer, procure, and construct six (6) typical station configurations and associated optional components representing the gamut of possible future station in a box projects based on Owner provided typical installation units. These six configurations, identified as Standard A through F, are used as base designs for each station within this program.

This innovative approach to system design allows the largest degree of cost control and overall predictability. The completed projects that are a part of this on-going program include:

• Tynan 138/13 kV Substation located in Tynan, Texas – This station layout is based on standard configuration “B”. The high side is an in-and-out design owned by AEP with a single transformer and it includes an accommodation for up to four feeder positions.
• Kittie West 138/13 kV Substation located in George, Texas – This station layout is based on standard configuration “A”. The design includes a single transformer and accommodation for up to four feeder positions with a high side design provided by others.
• Frio 138/13 kV Substation located in Pearsall, Texas – This station layout is based on standard configuration “A”. The design includes a single transformer and accommodation for up to four feeder positions with a high side design provided by others.
• Shropshire 138/13 kV Substation located in Markham, Texas – This station layout is based on standard configuration “A”. The design includes a single transformer and accommodation for up to four feeder positions with a high side design provided by others.
