Electrical Consultants Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Larry Gross, P.E., to ECI’s Board of Directors.

Gross brings a solid track record of executive leadership and vast knowledge of power system protection and integration engineering and commissioning of utilities and renewable projects across the US.

Gross currently holds two crucial roles at ECI, serving as the Vice President of Power System Protection and General Manager of the Pullman office. He began his engineering career in 1992 as a Transmission Protection Engineer with Pacific Gas & Electric. He went on to become the first Protection Services Manager at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, now known as SEL Engineering Services. In 2000, he founded his own company, Relay Application Innovation, Inc. (RAI). In 2019, he and his company joined ECI to establish our current Power System Protection team.

Gross’s passion for engineering and dedication to his craft are truly inspirational. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University (WSU), has written several application guides and technical papers on power system protection, integration, and control, and has presented in the US and Internationally. He co-authors a patent regarding protection against slow circuit breaker closures while synchronizing a generator. He is an IEEE Senior Member and a registered Professional Engineer in 32 states and provinces.

Gross has served on the Executive Board for the Advisory Council of the Electrical and Computer Science Department of WSU and has been a guest lecturer for the WSU Renewables course and the WSU Entrepreneurship program. He has been a Judge in several business plan competitions, served as both a co-owner and business consultant for a few technical and non-technical companies, and has been the program director for his church’s children’s ministry. He currently leads one of the programs for high schoolers at his church.

Gross and his wife Kate have four adult children and two grandchildren. As a Pullman, WA resident, he enjoys water and snow skiing, boating, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and volunteering with his church.
