Greenbrier County, WV
Located in southeast West Virginia, the 32 MW Beech Ridge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is primarily used for fast frequency regulating services in the PJM Market. As consulting engineer, ECI provided comprehensive electrical design, civil design, and integration of the Beech Ridge BESS. This included foundation design, medium voltage design, grounding and surge protection design, and schematic and wiring design. Additionally, ECI provided SCADA, control, and communication design services to the project. The Beech Ridge BESS consists of eighteen (18) lithium-ion battery energy storage containers with integral inverters. It is co-located just south of the Beech Ridge Wind Farm, a 100 MW generating facility with 67 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines. The Beech Ridge generation substation is served by a new 138 kV transmission line that is approximately 13.8 miles (22.2 km) to Nettie, WV.
