Sunflower Wind

Marion County, KS

To support the development of 200MW of wind generation, ECI/EPCS was contracted to provide the design, procurement, construction for 23 miles 345 kV transmission line.

ECI designed a new 23 mile 345 kV single circuit transmission line connecting Orsted’s Sunflower Wind collector substation in Marion County, Kansas to the Point of Interconnect (POI) structure located within Evergy’s Burns substation in Butler County, Kansas.

Tangent structures were direct embedded with both delta braced-post and vertical braced-post configurations. Deadend structures are self-supporting and constructed on concrete piers. Both tangent and deadend structures were constructed using weathering steel monopoles. Structures were designed to support two-bundle 795 kcmil 26/7 ACSR “Drake” and two 24 fiber OPGW AFL AC-64/528 shielding wires. In addition, ECI was responsible for reviewing transmission line easements and for obtaining any additional real estate, approvals, or pulling easements that were required for construction activities outside of the state highway ROW.

  • A total of 22.76 miles of transmission line connects the Project to the POI.
  • 34.5/345 kV MPT Collector Substation, 200 MW Wind Farm
